At Warp and Woof Designs we love to make bespoke items, so it was such a thrill to be asked by Julie if we could help design her outfit for a very special event close to her heart.

So the challenge was to find an outfit for that long awaited day when your son passes out from school King’s Day, as its known, takes place at the Cathedral and College Green in Worcester It usually is a spectacular occasion and an emotional time should your child be one of the leavers.

It has become the smartest and most formal day of the King’s calendar and the hottest one too!

As Julie is of a small disposition we know that the high street is an unlikely option for her to buy something suitable, so we immediately embraced designing a bespoke outfit. Julie had vibrant summer colours and flattering cuts in her mind, but the formality of the day does require perhaps a quieter palette but hey, lets respect classic but tweak to create a feminine contemporary design that she would be happy with!

When we saw the Lemon Linton summer tweed, with hidden bright sunshine yellow, it seemed an obvious choice of fabric. This was going to be easy to add accessories to and unite with a jacket for the cool of the Cathedral and unpredictable weather. A stand alone, well cut dress with short sleeves and boat neckline would be the optimum outfit if the day was too hot for a jacket.

We could not resist fringing the cool lemon tweed around the hem and torso to provide a little quirky design detail which would still be acceptable for the occasion but give it a knockout look, not to be forgotten!

In addition to the dress, we felt a jacket in a contrasting weave would match so much better than using the same fabric, twinsets and pearls really aren’t Julie’s style.

However, on close inspection the tweed we picked does contain yellow, but in order to unite the look, the jacket is braided with the tweed of the dress. The numerous threads of different colours are so intense they just had to be released into a thick fringe all around the jacket, so it’s an all singing, all dancing jacket, but classic in cut.

It’s certainly going to be a key garment in her wardrobe as it will match many outfits such as jeans, trousers and skirts for those more relaxed events that will come up.

Just as a final touch we really couldn’t resist adding a Percher Hat Julie with her petite frame also has a small head, so we’ve used a small teardrop block and covered in Linton tweed for total coordination. Fortunately she had a lemon Mulberry bag in her archives and struck lucky with some vintage Jimmy Choo’s she found in The Attic Cotswolds which completed the look.

Julie is now ready for this inaugural event, tissues in hand for those magical moments when she watches her son say his final farewells to school friends and see the boy she first took all those years ago grow into the young man he is today, ready for his next adventure as University beckons

Linton Tweeds so loved the design, they contacted us and have written a blog about Warp & Woof Designs. See their blog post here: One on One with Warp & Woof Designs

Paws For Thought

Mabel here and whilst I have been relaxing in the garden with my woolly coat trying to keep cool it appears I have missed out on a party! Tess not only seems to be eyeing up that cake but has decided to colour coordinate herself with it, how clever!

BTW where is my pretty pink Linton Tweed Bow?!
