9th February 2020 ~ The Diversity of Tweed

9th February 2020 ~ The Diversity of Tweed

British Tweed is steeped in heritage and has marched through the fashion ages demonstrating the limitless possibilities of its application. Tweed’s intensity of composition allows for a quiet appearance when soft green colours are woven together for the field, or loud when vibrant heather colours are used for the cat walk.

Tweed embellishes every age, every season, every event, every gender and more. Worn by gamekeeper to suffragette to head of state. From Prince William to Tinie Tempah, Tweed can stand alone or team with your wardrobe.

Who wears Tweed?

Ironically The Queen confidently shows off a jacket styled in Linton Tweed on her visit to historic Charterhouse where she opens a museum. Quite a departure from the traditions of her Balmoral suits made by Campbell’s of Beauly who have the Queen’s Royal warrant.  It is clear that she embraces all the  different  ages of Tweed.

Vintage Chanel  is prominent in the film Jackie, demonstrating the timeless quality of Tweed. Has this enflamed our passion for this iconic suit? No!

Classic to fantasy Tweed has never gone away because it is so easy to wear.

In the Horse and Hound, Champion Morestead shows off the quintessential Harris Tweed suit. Standing high above the blustery swell of Tweed at Cheltenham this year. A great celebration and nod to the overwhelming presence of Tweed.

Truly Tweed is woven into the fabric of society.

Super model Naomi Campbell explodes through this heritage vision of Morestead, taking us forward into the future. Vibrant colour and contemporary cut rockets Tweed away from its origins into a powerful new world.

Not defying tradition but embracing, developing and illustrating the diversity of Tweed.

Kate wears Tweed!

Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton has contributed to our love affair with Tweed. She has supported the move of this   fabric from the field to a country lifestyle, and even crossing the line into the city.

Really Wild wanted to create more feminine field-wear but with their strong British designs they did not stop there and shot into the fashion world.

Their recognition for the need of contemporary lifestyle clothing was supported by Kate with the many demands of her position for apparel. Great for Tweed, great for us.

Kate Moss adds another persona to Tweed.

There is nothing reserved about her fringed herringbone Tweed jacket. She rocks it out on the town. Powerful, not inhibited and fun!

In this day and age we are allowed to enjoy. Tweed is always at the cutting edge of fashion houses who are never slow at recognising current needs of their wearers.

Who wears tartan Tweed?

Charles has to be the best at working Tweed, this heritage fabric. Yes it conforms to formal social requirement but also must be liberating for private lifestyle at Balmoral. Robust, warm, weatherproof and long lasting.

Designed for the Highland weather.

A true timeless lifestyle fabric.

Its not surprising then to find our dogs taking advantage of Tweed’s durability. Moons Buchanan tartan is so striking your dog will not go unnoticed. Safe from the wind and rain in the countryside or town.

Does Tweed have a secret?

Tweed has an energy which comes from the land to the sheep to the wool and to the spinner to the weaver.

Once the strands are coloured it becomes a multifaceted, flexible, sustainable, durable natural product.

No wonder the designers are inspired by it, embrace it and love it. Application is endless and so to is its aura!
